I loved all the advertising I’ve seen on Birchbox and was excited to give them a try. But, unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with my first box.
My first impression: there wasn’t enough diversity in product types and the box itself seems a little excessive for something you really won’t reuse (but, it is super cute, so if you have creative ways you’ve repurposed your boxes, let me know in the comments).
With Birchbox, you have an opportunity to create a beauty profile so they can match your samples to your skin type, hair type/concerns, and overall personal style. It’s $10 per month and they offer 10% back in points and free shipping for any full-sized products that you purchase when you’ve previously sampled those items. You can also earn loyalty points for reviewing your products, which has the added bonus of allowing Birchbox to get to better know your preferences.
This particular box came a little too concentrated on skin care. I received: MALIN+GOETZ grapefruit face cleaner, Balance Me congested skin serum, and Avenue Cleanance Expert acne lotion.
I am, however, pretty stoked to try the ARROW BOOST color enhancing lip balm, which sells for $14. This is definitely something that intrigues me that I wouldn’t have purchased myself, but am super excited to try!
My fifth product was the Beauty Protector detangle spray. This one confused me as I did let Birchbox know I have straight, thin hair (i.e. no real use for something like this). But, luckily I have two curly haired nieces that I can gift this to.
For me, there are really two reasons I subscribe to beauty boxes: (1) I love the little dose of happy every month (2) I love to try new things.
This box missed the mark on both fronts this month … bust!
Here are some of my favorite subscriptions:
Having said this, I did notice on the Birchbox App that now that I’m a member, I will have an opportunity to customize my selections for next month. Stay tuned to see if my bust turns into a must buy…
